Hello my lovelies. =)
Above I have posted a link to a podcast by a Harry Potter scholar... pretty cool stuff. Madds, I know you haven't read the books--Alicia, I am not sure if you have or not. But this guy has a TON of good stuff to say even apart from what happens in the plot of the books, so I don't think his reflections will be terribly esoteric. He talks a lot about the ordering of the soul, and how authors often bring us these sets of 3 characters--each character representing one faculty of the soul. So Hermione=Reason/Mind, Ron=Body, Harry=Spirit/Will. Really fascinating stuff. He also mentions Brothers K at one point (Alyosha=Spirit/will, Ivan=Reason/Mind, Dmitri=Body) and even brings in some Shakespeare.
In Justice, we got a huge dose of "reason=highest faculty, reason is the most important, etc." Listening to this, I think the guy does a really good job of explaining the relationship between all three parts of the soul, and how all three are necessary. He also offers some pretty profound reflections on what reading is and what it does to our minds... muhaha. =) Good stuff to think about.
Enjoy!
P.S. I miss you two. So, so much.
OOO this sounds good! I'll look it up :) Question: Are you allowed to be a "(Bank) Scholar" if the person you are a scholar of is still alive? haha
ReplyDeleteLol well, I guess so! He seems to have gotten away with it. =)
DeleteMonica, thank you so much for sharing. I have a long running list of Podcasts to listen to. I am working through Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick's "Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy" series. :) Very good. This podcast sounds so fascinating. Perhaps after listening to it I will be more apt to add HP to my reading list.
